• MailMarshal is a software product that functions as a content filtering gateway for SMTP based Internet email and web communication.
• WebMarshal is a Web access control and monitoring application that enables businesses to establish and enforce an effective Web usage policy.

MailMarshal and WebMarshal are installed as gateways in the network. With respect to email, MailMarshal receives all incoming or outgoing email and review the contents against a set of pre-defined policies and takes whatever actions are defined for any exceptions it finds.  WebMarshal performs a similar set of actions for each URL or Web Object that it fetches on behalf of the user. 

Norman Virus Control (NVC) for MailMarshal enables MailMarshal to search for computer viruses in the emails passing through the gateway. NVC will even remove viruses found in files attached to the emails. When NVC has removed the viruses, the attachment can be considered safe and the receiver may safely continue to use the attachment.

Norman Virus Control (NVC) for WebMarshal enables WebMarshal to search for computer viruses in the web components that it fetches for the requesting user. NVC will even remove viruses found in these files. When NVC has removed the viruses, the component can be considered safe and the requester may safely continue to use the Web Component.

If for any reason NVC is unable to remove the virus, MailMarshal or WebMarshal will quarantine the infected email or Web Object.

Automatic update of the virus definition files and the scanning engine can be done with the Norman Internet Update program.

To integrate NVC with MailMarshal or WebMarshal, NVC version 5.2 Server or later must be installed on the server that runs MailMarshal or WebMarshal.
